We put together a quick guide below on our findings based on the price of the Honda NSX in Japan. While it is interesting to see how much the Honda NSX costs today, we were interested to find out how much they sold for when they were brand new and how much that is in today’s money. For example, this 1999 Acura NSX Zanardi Edition car with 12,000 miles on the clock has just recently sold for well over US $200,000. Today, the Honda/Acura NSX is one of Japan’s most collectible cars, especially the NSX-R and other special edition models. Performance updates would come in 1997 and in 2002 the car was given a facelift and an updated version of the NSX-R was launched. Honda would also launch a special edition of the NSX known as the NSX-R in 1992, that was designed to be the most extreme version of the car. In North America the NSX was sold under Honda’s premium brand name, Acura. It was the world’s first mass-produced car to feature an all-aluminium body and it was powered by an all-aluminium 3.0-litre V6 engine with Honda’s Variable Valve Timing technology (VTEC). While the NSX was cheaper than much of its competition, Honda didn’t cheap out on the components and technology that made up the car. The Honda NSX was arguably the best value high-end supercar available at the time and it proved to be hugely popular. When the Original Honda/Acura NSX launched in 1990 it was not only designed to take on the likes of Ferrari’s supercars, but it was also designed to do so while being much more practical and much cheaper.
